Last year, Samsung revealed an unusual product, the Galaxy Ring. It is designed for purposes such as fitness, health, and sleep tracking. Now, it seems like Apple is also cooking something up to give some competition to the Galaxy Ring. An online discovery reveals a new patent for Apple's Smart Ring, showcasing its versatile applications. Moreover, the patent is so interesting that it even shows the Apple Smart Ring playing the famous ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’ game.

The new patent was spotted by Ithome. The patent focuses primarily on gestures. The primary focus is skin-to-skin contact detection, and how Apple's Smart Ring can potentially detect the other body parts to make the gestures work. For instance, when a person wears a ring on one finger or multiple fingers, the ring can detect relationships between those fingers and other body parts—such as other fingers, thumbs, or even across hands. This ultimately enables the ring to perform different kinds of gestures.

Would you like to play ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’ with the Apple Smart Ring?

Users can perform common gestures like pinching and sliding. But what caught our attention was that the Apple Smart Ring is capable enough to even detect gestures used in playing ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors.' In the patent, there is also a demonstration of how the user can use his finger to draw gestures on the palm of another hand while wearing an Apple Watch. This leads to a theory that the Apple Watch could be operated using the smart ring.
Apple is popular for its flawless ecosystem. Hence, the company must be thinking of solutions to make this Ring a part of the ecosystem. Also, the Smart Ring can be used as an add-on for Vision Pro, which is also controlled via gestures.

That said, this is just a patent for now, but overall, it is an interesting one. Apple definitely must be thinking of such a Smart Ring in the future to rival Samsung Galaxy Ring.
