DJI has introduced the Mini 5 Pro, its newest lightweight drone. Weighing 249 grams, it is part of DJI’s ultra-light drone series. International sales start immediately, but regulatory issues mean U.S. buyers cannot access it through official channels.
Camera and Sensor
The drone has a Type 1 image sensor. About 65% larger than Mini 4 Pro. It shoots 50MP stills and 4K60 HDR video. The camera sits on a 3-axis gimbal. It shifts between portrait and landscape. A new feature allows a 225-degree gimbal roll (rare in consumer drones).
Low-light performance is improved. Video and photos are sharper. The upgrade matters most for content creators abroad.
Flight Features
Obstacle avoidance improves with forward-facing LiDAR. This addition enhances safety during night or low-light flights. The Mini 5 Pro keeps a memory of its flight path, allowing a safe return to its launch point even if GPS signals fail.
Battery life is also extended. The standard battery offers 36 minutes per charge. An optional extended battery increases flight time to 52 minutes. The extended battery exceeds the 249g weight limit, which may affect certain regulatory benefits, but provides longer operational use.
U.S. Availability
The Mini 5 Pro will not launch in the U.S. first. DJI has delayed drones in the past. Mavic 3 Pro faced similar issues. Some units were blocked by U.S. Customs. Imported drones may need service abroad, which adds cost and wait.
Other DJI products also launch abroad first. Osmo 360 cameras, Mic 3 wireless audio—short delays. Drones like Mini 5 Pro face longer gaps.
