Smartphone makers often emphasize battery life, no surprises here, after all, that's one of the greatest demands among users. Everyone wants a smartphone that lasts a full day, or even more. Users want to be free from the so-called Battery anxiety, which occurs when they need to charge their smartphone often and fear losing access to it when they need it most. Based on this, HONOR decided to put its new foldable, the Honor Magic V5, through a test that’s anything but ordinary. The company challenged professional speed reader Jordan Harry to read all 4,300 pages of Marcel Proust’s In Search of Lost Time on a single charge.

The “Unbroken Read” Challenge

The event, dubbed The Unbroken Read, took place in London during the Magic V5’s European launch. Over the course of 30 and a half hours, Harry powered through the notoriously long novel, racking up more than 1.2 million words. When he finally closed the digital book, the Honor Magic V5 still had 10 percent battery left.

HONOR’s Big Battery Bet

“We set out to prove that battery anxiety doesn't have to be part of the smartphone experience,” said Adam Cao, President of HONOR Western Europe. “The results speak for themselves. A single charge that outlasted what would have required multiple recharges on other foldables.”
Harry, who runs StudyFast, a company focused on accelerated learning, said the challenge was as much about endurance as it was about technology. “Reading 4,300 pages in under 40 hours, on a single charge, is an incredible achievement,” he said. “The Magic V5’s battery life, lightweight design, and stunning screen not only made it possible, but actually enjoyable.”

What Makes the Honor Magic V5 A Battery King

The Honor Magic V5 is built around a 5,820mAh silicon-carbon battery, the largest ever in a foldable smartphone. HONOR says that capacity, combined with its efficient design, is what allowed the device to survive the literary marathon.
Specs-wise, the phone opens up to a 7.95-inch display and closes with a 6.43-inch outer screen. At 217 grams and just 4.1mm thick when unfolded, it’s slimmer and lighter than many traditional smartphones.

Proof in the Pages

For anyone still skeptical, HONOR filmed the entire challenge as proof. And while not everyone will spend 30 hours buried in Proust, the company is clearly betting that lasting through marathons of video, games, or work will be just as appealing.

Conclusion

This test shows how durable and trustworthy the Honor Magic V5 is as a foldable smartphone. The battery was one of the achilles heels of foldable smartphones, but this is finally changing thanks to Honor. As one of the pioneers in the Si-C battery technology, the company keeps pushing the market with larger and larger batteries. The V5 now challenges even standard smartphones with its massive batteries.
