Recently, Huawei and Swiss telecom operator, Sunrise, jointly tested 5G download speeds in Zurich, Switzerland. From the result, the two sides achieved a download speed of 3.67 Gbps on the commercial 5G network in Zurich. This is a new record download speed of commercial 5G networks. Sunrise uses Huawei's 5G equipment.
According to Huawei multiple 5G smartphones were used with Sunrise's commercial 5G network. The test results from these devices were similar. Sunrise adopts 5G commercial network equipment from Huawei. It conforms to the 3GPP standard specifications and improves the network capacity of 5G without increasing the spectrum and site resources through C-Band 100MHz bandwidth and MU-MIMO technology.
In addition, Sunrise has strengthened its partnership with Huawei to provide 5G services to more than 260 Swiss cities and villages. It will also provide high peak 5G speeds across Switzerland. Prior to today's testing, Sunrise's commercial 5G network peaked at 2Gbps and is expected to achieve higher 5G speeds. It appears that the carrier will continue to use Huawei's 5G equipment.
However, the EU is proposing to ban any 5G network that strongly depends on a single supplier. In this regard, Sunrise will have to relax its dependence on Huawei. In Europe, a couple of suppliers want such a deal that makes them exclusive suppliers.
