Chinese Smartphone Shipment Slumps In Q1 2018

A lot of smartphones has been moving out of China this year. However, despite these releases, this Chinese market is not performing as well as it did in the recent past.

According to the "China Mobile Phone Market Operation Analysis Report for March 2018" released by the China Institute of Information and Communications, China's smartphone shipments reached 28.083 million units in March 2018 which is a year-on-year drop of 28.6%, accounting for 93.0 of domestic mobile phone shipments in the same period. In the first quarter of 2018, cumulative shipments totaled 81.87 million units, down 27.0% year-on-year, and 93.7% of domestic mobile phone shipments during the same period.

In March, 68 new smartphones (67 were Android phones) were launched, a 37.0% year-on-year decrease (unexpectedly). In the first three months of this year, the number of new smartphones totaled 158 (152 were Android phones), a year-on-year decrease of 15.1%.

In the first quarter of 2018, shipments of 4G handsets totaled 81.96 million units, down 27.1% year-on-year, of which 4G Netcom mobile phones accounted for 92.5% of the total. 156 new 4G models were launched, a year-on-year decrease of 17.5%.
