There is currently the proliferation of 5G technology in parts of Asia and Europe. Although 5G will need at least another year to fully mature, it has already kicked off in South Korea. In April 2019, South Korea became the first country to commercially launch 5G technology. As of now, South Korea's 5G coverage is still limited to Seoul, the country's capital. Nevertheless, the country's three telecommunications companies now have 260,000 5G users.
According to reports, among the three major operators, Korea Telecom (KT) holds a leading position and has about 100,000 users while SK Telecom and LG Uplus have not announced their exact number of 5G customers. The rapid push of 5G also brought some problems for the early adopters. The report said that the first 5G-enabled device, Samsung's Galaxy S10 5G, has connectivity problems. According to the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, the country now has more than 54,000 5G base stations, which helps improve network coverage.
One of the disadvantages of the 5G network is that it needs a lot of base stations. In the absence of these stations, the network coverage may be poor. Its only been a month since South Korea officially commercialized 5G. It is expected that the network coverage will significantly increase as the days go by.
