Gionee's budget Pioneer P4 just got an Android v4.4 KitKat update from the Chinese maker, for the Indian market.
The Pioneer P4 is a solid budget smartphone, now made better with the availability of Android v4.4 KitKat. Gionee has been active in providing software updates for its phones, which is a good sign. The Pioneer P4 is one among many other Gionee phones to feature a MediaTek chipset.
It comes with the quad-core 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6582V, and with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage, makes for a serious Moto G killer. The Pioneer P4 goes for 9,199 INR or $150, a price range that's now being threatened by 2GB RAM phones like the ASUS Zenfone 5.

Specifications

  • 4.5-inch 854 x 480p display
  • 1.3GHz quad-core CPU
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB ROM
  • 5 mega-pixel rear camera
  • 2 mega-pixel front camera
  • 1800mAh battery
The update measures a good 808MB in size, so you're advised to have your Pioneer P4 connected to a strong WiFi network before attempting the upgrade.
This makes the Pioneer P4 join the list of phones like the Elife E7 mini, which got the KitKat update a few weeks back.
