India’s largest
smartphone maker,
Micromax, is planning to shift manufacturing away from
China and in to
India as early as next year.
The company currently buys in
OEM phone from
China and rebrands them as their own
models where they are sold, to great success in
India. However, with increased import taxes and duties on Chinese phones in
India it has forced the company to set up it’s own
factory on a trial basis.
Co-founder of Micromax,
Rahul Sharman says that production could begin shifting from
China to
India as the
first quarter of next year!
The move would also speed up shipments, build brand reputation and may
help with their push in to European markets.
