With every passing day,
octa-core Chinese smartphones get more and more affordable. Of course, those based out of
China are the ones who get the most benefit out of the price wars.
Newman have announced that their K18 smartphone will be available at a starting price of just
CNY 999, which is just a shade under $165! The
Newman K18 is the company's 2nd
octa-core smartphone alongside the K2S phablet. The K18 comes with a 5-inch display featuring a 1920 x 1080p full HD resolution which clocks 441ppi on the PPI meter. It comes with the usual suspects; a Sony f/
2.2 13 mega-pixel rear
camera, 5 mega-pixel front
camera and a MediaTek
octa-core processor, the MT6592 which operates at 1.7GHz.
Like many other
Chinese smartphones that came through last year, the
Newman K18 too features 'Classic' and 'Ultimate' variants. The 'Classic' version comes with a gig of RAM and just 4GB of on-board storage, and supports only TD-SDCMA for 3G. The 'Ultimate' version is what overseas buyers would want to have their eyes on, since it not only comes with
2GB RAM and 16GB ROM, but also has support for dual 3G over WCDMA.
Pricing in
China is set at
CNY 999 ($165) for the Classic 1GB/4GB variant and
CNY 1299 ($214) for the Ultimate
2GB/16GB variant.
