Samsung Electronics sold 6.7 million 5G phones worldwide in 2019

The development of 5G is in full throttle and we expect to see the preponderance of 5G devices this year. South Korean manufacturing giant, Samsung, had an edge when it comes to 5G phone sales for 2019. Commercial 5G network commenced in its home country (South Korea) before any other country or region. Obviously, Samsung Electronics has a strong fanbase in its home country and this gives the company an edge. Today, the company announced that it sold over 6.7 million 5G phones globally in 2019.

This sale figure stems from models such as Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, Galaxy Note 10 Plus 5G, etc. Earlier at the 2019 International Consumer Electronics Show (IFA) in Berlin, Samsung said that the company had only sold 2 million 5G devices and expected to sell 4 million by the end of the year.

Samsung claims that as of November 2019, the company's share of the global 5G smartphone market is 53.9%. However, for Samsung Electronics, 2020 is the year that really tests the company's ability with 5G phones. Unlike most mobile phones in 2019 that do not support 5G, this year, Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 865 processor will force Android flagships to support 5G. This will significantly increase the number of 5G mobile phones, and Samsung will face greater competition.
