Hard disc drives are becoming rarer than hens teeth due to the floods in Thailand, and
PC vendors have began desperately searching any and every avenue that may lead to a steady supply including scouring the gray markets!
Digitimes are reporting a sharp increase in prices for HDD’s over the past few weeks with 500
GB HDD’s shooting up in price from $45 to $100.
PC makers are apparently panic buying to fill their
HDD inventories, with operational
factories straining to keep up with
demand, working at up to double their regular capacity.
The shortages are also expected to boost the
demand for
SSD equipped laptops and ‘ultrabooks’ such as Asus super thin Zenbook and Apple’s
Macbook Air.
