The front of the F501 has a nice alloy facia which carries the speaker and subtle branding around the large 5-inch display.

The rear is more rounded than the angular front and reminds us of some of the Huawei phones we have seen over the past few months. The whole phone measures in at just 8.5mm, and as you can see it appears very thin in the photos.

The hardware is pure MTK flagship material as the F501 boasts a quad-core MT6589 chip, 3 mega-pixel front camera, 13MP rear, 1080HD video capture, OGS HD screen, Android 4.1 OS and optional NFC.

No word on pricing, but the release date in France and other European countries is penned in for September.

    Hi Andi,

Any news on RAM? Is it 1GB or 2GB ?
Also, while its great that this phone is coming to Europe, September is several months away! And there are soo many brilliant phones coming out from China in March-April time frame that many of the potential buyers might choose to order their phones online. Of course, that comes with all sorts of risks (and lack of support), but given the way 2013 is turning out to be for inexpensive phones with extremely good specs, September might be just a tad too late for Umeox…
    What do you reckon ?

September will be too late for a MT6589 based device to be ‘high-end’ in Europe. By September most of Europe will be covered by maturing 4G LTE networks and customers will want a second generation LTE phone.

There were rumors of a MT6599 chipset with LTE, that would be mandatory for a high-end release in Europe.

If this is released as mid/low range like the original ZTE Blade (San Francisco) was in the UK it could do very well as the big manufacturers (Sony, Samsung, HTC, et al.) are unable to release decent phones in this range.

Umeox plans to offer an affordable high-end smartphone for European end users, only a few European cities have LTE right now and this will still be true in September. LTE will be a big story next year but not before.
Furthermore, it takes time to get certified for European markets; anyhow I guess the F501 will be selling at 50% of the price of the Galaxy S 4 but will still feature similar specs: Super fine quality 13Mpixel AF (Toshiba – Leica certified lens) / 5” Full HD which will be amazingly Technicolor certified. This is the major competitive advantage because Technicolor is THE company behind all the Hollywood blockbusters, their color imaging patent is a revolution for true color rendering.
