70mai A900 Dash Cam Review: Dual Recording Without the Clutter

Reviews

Buying a good dash camera for your car used to be easy. You would pick a resolution, check the price tag, and stick the mount onto your glass. Today, the market is split into two paths. One path gives you simple local cameras that record to a memory card. The other path gives you smart cloud systems that track your car around the clock.
Having tested the feature-packed 70mai A900 Ultra in my own car recently, I wanted to see how the standard 70mai A900 compares. The Ultra version has dual 4K Sony sensors and smart cloud alerts, but it costs more money and needs extra wiring kits. The standard A900 promises clear dual 4K video in a smaller frame without forcing extra subscription costs on you.
After using the standard A900 during my daily drives over the last two weeks, I can share how it performs on the road. Here is my full hands-on review.

Summary

  • Dual 4K Recording: Captures clear video on both front and rear cameras at the same time.
  • Smaller Body: Measures just 91x46x24.9mm, keeping a low profile behind your mirror.
  • Supercapacitor Power: Built to handle hot summer sun and cold winter weather without swelling.
  • Fast Wi-Fi 6: Lets you stream live views and download clips to your smartphone quickly.
  • Simple Setup: Works right out of the box as a reliable local camera without monthly fees.

Design and Build Quality: Sleek and Easy to Hide

When you unbox the standard 70mai A900, the first thing you notice is its size. The A900 Ultra is quite large at 92x60x51.4mm because of its big optical lens setup. By contrast, the standard A900 is much slimmer at 91x46x24.9mm. That smaller shape makes a huge difference once mounted on your glass. It hides neatly behind your rearview mirror, keeping your view of the road clean.

The body uses dark matte plastic that resists glare inside the car. Both the front unit and the compact rear camera use standard USB-C ports for power. That makes running wires along your car trim very straightforward.
Just like the Ultra model, the standard A900 uses a supercapacitor instead of a standard battery. This choice is vital if you park outside in hot climates. A supercapacitor handles high heat inside a locked car without swelling, leaking, or degrading over time.

Installation and Mobile App Features

Setting up this camera in your vehicle takes only a few simple steps. You stick the mount to your windscreen with the included static sticker, run the power lead to your 12V socket, and format your memory card through the menu screen.

Connecting the camera to the 70mai phone app is fast and painless. The camera creates its own local Wi-Fi 6 hotspot. This setup lets you view live footage, change settings, and download recorded clips right to your phone without using your mobile data.
While the Ultra model pushes you to buy an extra 4G hardwire kit for cloud tracking, the standard A900 focuses on simple local recording. You do not need to sign up for monthly plans or pay for extra cloud storage to use this device every day.

Video Quality and Daily Performance

A good dash camera needs to read license plates and road signs clearly. The standard A900 handles this task very well. Its front and rear cameras both record in full 4K resolution at 30 frames per second with HDR enabled.
During daytime drives, the footage looks sharp and natural. The camera balances dark shadows and bright sunlight well, such as when driving through tunnels.
At night, the built-in night vision reduces glare from oncoming headlights. While the Ultra model uses Sony IMX678 sensors for slightly better low-light detail at high speeds, the standard A900 still captures crisp evidence during evening commutes.

Parking Surveillance and Battery Safety

If you want to protect your car while parked, the A900 supports G-sensor impact detection and time-lapse recording modes. If a vehicle bumps your bumper while you are away, the camera turns on to save a protected video clip.
To use these parking features safely, you can connect an optional hardwire kit. The app lets you set a low-voltage cutoff limit. This safety feature stops the camera from draining your car battery completely while parked for long periods.
It lacks the advanced AI motion detection found on the Ultra model, but its core impact sensor gives you reliable protection when parked on busy streets.

Final Thoughts: Should You Buy It?

The standard 70mai A900 is a smart choice for drivers who want high 4K resolution without paying for cloud subscriptions or complex wiring. It gives you crisp front and rear video, a sleek design that stays out of sight, and reliable supercapacitor hardware.

If you do not need live 4G cloud tracking or remote notifications, the standard A900 gives you all the core features you need at a great value.
