Patent Reveals Samsung Galaxy Hit, “Padfone” Like Device

It seems Samsung might be taking a page out of the ASUS playbook. Patents uncovered by the dutch Galaxy S5 rumor/fansite Kopen Galaxy 5 show that the Korean phone manufacturer that accounts for over 63% of the global android market is working on something that looks very similar to  ASUS’s Padfone line of devices.

The patent is listed under the “Digital Cameras; Smartphone; Tablet Computers” categories and the image has the labels “Back of Tablet” and “Smartphone” imprinted on it. There is also what looks to be a slot for the smartphone in the center of the device. In addition, there appears to be a headphone jack and a power button on the top of the phone, with a dock or power port on the bottom of the tablet.

Gizchina News of the week

There are no size specifications for either the tablet or phone, so we cannot gather from this information what the combination of devices are. Will it be a 4.3-inch phone with a 10inch tablet like ASUS’s original Padfone, or a 4.3-inch phone with a 7-inch tablet like ASUS’s recently launched Padfone Mini or perhaps Samsung will bring something else entirely to the table?

This patent comes shortly after some interesting Samsung devices showed up on the benchmark app AnTuTu‘s website. The benchmarks seemed to indicate two devices with 2560×1440 and 1920×1080 screens. Putting two and two together and it looks like we could be looking at 2k display tablet and a 1080p phone combination.

We will have more as it breaks.
