Update: How to install Oxygen OS on your Chinese OnePlus 2

how to install oxygen OS on the Chinese oneplus 2

Although the international version of the OnePlus 2 hasn’t launched yet Oxygen OS is available and if you have a Chinese OnePlus 2 you can install it super easy to get all the benefit of the international ROM.

When my OnePlus 2 arrived yesterday it came with Hydrogen OS. Hydrogen OS is the Chinese mainland ROM for the OnePlus 2, and while it does have English as a menu option it also has draw backs. Hydrogen OS doesn’t have Google services built in, it also is as well optimised as Oxygen OS, the UI is laggy and there are some odd features missing (no file manager?).

The good news is the Chinese version of the OnePlus 2 is identical to the international version of the OnePlus 2, so all you need is a copy of the international Oxygen OS ROM and install it.

How to install Oxygen OS on your Chinese OnePlus 2

Warning:
Warning: Before you start I must warn you that you are attempting this at your own risk. If anything goes wrong I am not to blame. Also, back up your personal data etc before starting.

To complete this installation you are going to need the following:

  • A copy of Oxygen OS
  • USB Type C cable
  • PC/MAC

If you cannot find a copy of Oxygen OS don’t worry as Chinese blogger Stone IP has managed to upload a copy to his Baido and Onedrive accounts. The Onedrive link downloads very quickly.

Steps to install Oxygen OS on the Chinese OnePlus 2

  1. Download the Oxygen OS .zip packet to your PC. Do not unzip.
  2. Connect the Oneplus 2 to your PC via USB Type C and cope the .zip to the ROOT of your file archive.
  3. Once the file has finished transferring disconnect your phone and power off.
  4. Press the power button + volume down button together on the OnePlus 2.
  5. You will now enter a recovery mode. Follow these steps.
  6. Choose language > Install from SD > Choose Oxygen OS .zip (or whatever you named it) > Installing package Yes > Wait for update to complete > Reboot yes
  7. Your Chinese version OnePlus 2 will no reboot after a minute and you will be guided through the set up instructions for Oxygen OS.
  8. Enjoy!

I’ve only just completed the update myself but can already feel that the OnePlus 2 is much smoother and faster with Oxygen OS. Animations and the camera are notably quicker even with this first build of the system!

If you want to buy the Chinese version of the OnePlus 2 you can do that now without invite from one of these stores: 5 stores you can buy the OnePlus 2 without invite.

Thanks to GizChina Core member Walid Elas for the help finding the download links!

Question was if the Oxygen OS adds anything to the bands or not. In case no, it is not really the same hardware as said above.

Probably it is a hardware difference regarding antennas between the international and chinese version. So in that case they are not “identical”.

Not sure what I do wrong since I am a android dummy:

    First :
    Unlocked the phone
    Dowloaded the Oxygen _1.0.0.zip
    Copied this into the root
    Start up in recovery mode
    Run from SD
    Installation failed

    Two :
Download the adb and installed on the pc
Download the TWPR Recovery and installed via adb
    Run TWPR Recovery
Copied Oxygen again in the root
    Start up Recovery mode
    Run from SD the Oxygen
    Installation failed

What can be wrong please? As I am living in China I bought the one plus two here online. Is there something on this phone that does not allow me to install International software? Please let me know. Thanks.

When I try to copy the zip file to the phone, it says ‘there is not enough space on OnePlus Drivers. You need an additional 1.09 GB to copy these files’. Any suggestions please?
