Oppo should just have done with it and change their name to Mapple or Sapple and release every phone with an i before their name. They are clearly a clone manufacturer, how they sell so much is just beyond me, they are not even cheap. Culd buy teh real thing for a little bit more.

For everyone who want Apple’s iPhone design with Android OS + MicroSD and headphone jack.

Outstanding camera performance, overall build quality and heavy marketing => success

Don’t be fooled, Oppo isn’t a clone of anything in China, but quite the contrary as cheap brands are cloning their devices.

I know Oppo aren’t low budget cheap clone manufacturer, but they still make well built clone phones. In fact considering what their phones used to look like, (find 7 etc ), they have completely altered their designs to look a lot more like apple phones over the last couple of years, to the point where they are not original in anyway really. I wouldn’t say Oppo cameras were outstanding, they have never produced a camera on par with any of the leading flagships like the S8, pixel, iPhone etc. And the prices of their flagships are almost the same as apple and Samsung. Don’t really see the appeal personally. Just shows you what a lot of marketing can do.

“I wouldn’t say Oppo cameras were outstanding, they have never produced a camera on par with any of the leading flagships like the S8, pixel, iPhone etc.”

I remember comparing the pics from my Find 7 with my friends’ latest Samsung and Apple flagships. We concluded each time that Find 7 shot better photos in the same conditions. It may explain why no Oppo device was ever tested by DXoMark, as an exemple…

Talking about design, it’s true that Oppo left behind their own design to stick to Apple design with R series and that’s a shame. But I wouldn’t say that’s sufficient to talk about “clones”.

I think when the design is so close and so many elements copied together it is definitely edges towards being a clone. Same antenna design, same camera Ui design, same multitasking menus, same icons, same Ui animations. I saw reviews of the find 7 at the time, camera was not very special as I recall, similar to my oneplus one as had the same sensor. Came no where close to the iphone 6/6s or galaxy note 4 both released that year…. https://www.engadget.com/2014/07/24/oppo-find-7-review/

OK lets say R series are iPhone clones.
But this Find 7 review by engadget is total crap.

And you should know O+1 had same sensor as Find 7 but didn’t get the optimizations so the results were completely different. Like Xiaomi’s Mi series that boasts great Sony sensors with a total lack of optimization that gives poor results.
