Apple has updated its 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac with the new M6 chip. Both computers get faster performance and better support for AI tasks, but their designs remain unchanged.
The new MacBook Pro replaces last year’s M5 model. The iMac skips the M5 chip and moves straight from the M4 to the M6. Both computers will be available to order from October 28.

MacBook Pro gets more power

The new 14-inch MacBook Pro uses an M6 chip with a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU. The GPU also has built-in AI tools and support for ray tracing, which can improve lighting in games and 3D apps.
Apple offers 16GB of memory as standard, with options for 24GB or 32GB. Storage starts at 1TB, and buyers can choose up to 4TB. The laptop also gains Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 through Apple’s new N1 wireless chip.
The design stays the same, so there is no new screen or body to talk about. This update is mainly about speed, newer wireless features and better support for AI work.

iMac gets two M6 options

The new iMac also uses the M6 chip, but buyers can choose between two versions. The entry model has a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU. The more powerful version gets a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU.
Both models start with 16GB of memory and 256GB of storage. Buyers can add more memory and storage when ordering. Apple has also added Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, along with an optional nano-texture screen that helps reduce glare.
The rest of the iMac remains unchanged. It still has a 24-inch 4.5K display and comes in seven colors: blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, orange and silver.

Prices and release date

The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 starts at $1,999. The iMac starts at $1,499 with the 10-core chip, while the 12-core version costs $1,699.
Pre-orders open on October 28, and both computers go on sale on November 6.
These updates are not major design changes, but they bring Apple’s latest chip to two popular Macs. For owners of older models, the extra speed and newer wireless features may be a good reason to upgrade. Owners of recent M4 or M5 machines have less reason to rush.
