Xiaomi Red Rice network licence canceled, but already in production?

Xiaomi’s much speculated entry-level ‘Red Rice’ has shown up in official network licence documents again, this time though the license has been cancelled! So whats the full story here?

We’ve told you time and time again that Xiaomi like to keep us guessing right up until the last-minute, and it looks like this is going to be true of the Xiaomi Red Rice, if it ever launches!

Chinese news sites are reporting today that the Red Rice has had its network licence canceled, however that licence was for the dual-core model which we reported on earlier this month, and it appears the phone will still launch but with a quad-core Mediatek chip.

Sources in Shenzhen are even claming the phone is already in mass production and will either use the 1.2Ghz MT6589 or (fingers crossed) the 1.5Ghz MT6589T processor! The rest of the hardware includes 1GB RAM, 4.7-inch display, 1280 x 720 resolution, 8GB ROM, 8 mega-pixel rear camera and MIUI V5.

Hopefully it will support all bands, and not just TD-SCDMA. (fingers and toes crossed.)
