Let’s be honest. Technology is great, it has connected the world and has provided us with endless hours of entertainment, but it can be a little much sometimes. Smartwatches are the hot thing at the moment, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for innovation in the “regular” watch space. No one could blame you for not wanting a smartwatch, most of them are ugly and we are already so bombarded with emails and social media alerts and instant messages that another device telling you about all of them might be the opposite of what you want.
Outside of smartwatches, timepieces haven’t changed much over the past two decades, even while technology has continually marched on. There is one company in Japan however, that is focused on using technology to bring not computing power, but style to our wrists.
The Japanese based Kisai has made some interesting and dare I say, innovative, watch designs in the past, but nothing quite like this. The all wood design gives the appearance of no technology at all, other than the small metal buttons on the side. But press one of those buttons and the face seems to light up magically, displaying the time.
It won’t tell you how far you have walked, it won’t let you read text messages, it won’t let you check-in on foursquare. What it will do however, is turn heads, a lot of them.
The Kisai Night Vision Wood LED Watch is available now for the launch price of $109 for a few more hours before the price jumps a little. If you are wondering, they do ship internationally.[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddI3fio8fi0?rel=0]
