Xiaomi Redmi series’ India launch in the pipeline

If you thought Xiaomi was done dazzling the Indian market, well, think again (or visit the Mi India page on Facebook).

Xiaomi India shared a teaser on their Facebook page a few minutes back, with a caption that read ‘Think we’ve announced it all? There’re so much more! Take a wild guess on what we’re going to announce‘. A look at the picture and any GizChina reader will easily guess what’s coming; the affordable Xiaomi Redmi series!

The lineup currently consists of the sought after Xiaomi Redmi Note and the Redmi 1S (which we reviewed and quite liked), besides the older gen Redmi aka Hongmi. As you’d expect from any teaser, there’s no timeline provided, but we’re hoping it doesn’t take Xiaomi too long before they launch this budget series in India.

Gizchina News of the week

redmi

A couple of days back, Xiaomi announced the Mi3 in India at just 15,000 INR, with pre-sales to begin 15th July. The device will take flagships from local makers in Micromax, Lava, XOLO, etc. head on, along with other more expensive options such as the Samsung Galaxy S5, etc.

Would you prefer holding out for the budget Redmi series (which I think will be priced well under the 10k INR mark), or do you prefer going the Snapdragon 800 aka Mi3 route? Let us know!

I must say I like how that Redmi-esque Mi3 looks. If Xiaomi prices this right, they’ll cause some real trouble for the Indian brands.

Mi3 cannot head on with Samsung S5; but Mi4 can do that if not lacking camera quality; right now Samsung devices have better camera.

But the price at which Sammy stings u is also 2X the price of Xiaomi Sir… is it worth getting laid by Sammy all the time ??? I think Sammy days of being on top of India food chain are numbered due to their predatory pricing..check Sammy profit warning on internet.

Still don’t understand how xiaomi can update MIUI for other manufacturers handsets before their own. Redmi 1/1s are clearly their best selling handsets yet they only update them every 2 or 3 months! And they’re still stuck on 4.2 or 4.3, with no word weather they will receive kit kat. Many people with issues and still no sign of stable 25. Really poor support

It will be definately be Mi3 at the moment. Unless they do a simultaneous launch of Mi4 in india as well when they launch it in China after their announcement. Can’t decide to wait for it or go for Mi3
