$99.99 Elephone G2 comes with choice of Cyanogen, MIUI and more!

elephone g2

At $99.99 the Elephone G2 sounds like great value for money, and now with it’s official release and Cyanogen support it seems simply incredible!

Available in bright colours and sporting a 64bit Mediatek processor, the 4.5-inch Elephone G2 is a bargain already for just $99.99. The G2 runs the same quad-core MT6732 processor that the Elephone P6000 comes with, and like that phone the G2 will come with Android 5.0, but there’s more.

The official specifications page of the Elephone G2 also announces that the budget phone will also support Cyanogenmod, MIUI and LEWA ROM. This time it appears that Lollipop comes with the phone in the box with optional ROM’s coming at a later date.

Gizchina News of the week

elephone g2

With 1GB RAM, 8 mega-pixel rear camera, dual SIM, Micro SD and LTE, the G2 really does have remarkable specifications for the money, and seems like a better value device than the Android One phones we started to see last year.

I have asked Elephone to provide a video to us showing CM and the other ROMS running on the phone and they have agreed to send one so keep posted for that.

The Elephone G2 is available to order now at Elephone.cc.

Just 1 GB RAM is not really good, also how about the ROM judging by the price about 8 GB and also battery might be around 2000 mAh I assume, not something which is very “current” If Elephone want to beat the big brothers, I suggest at least 2 GB RAM and about 2800-3200 battery, and it will give the big boys a run for their money.

Come on, it’s $99.. I think it’s a great deal, especially when we know Elephone isn’t a company, which makes phone overpriced for international users.

True, pricewise its good, but then it is in a way going to compete with Xiaomi Redmi 2 which comes with 2 GB RAM, Xiaomi Redmi 2 will beat it hand down in low segment market in terms of performance, thus if elephone would have to come up with 2GB RAM at least. You must be aware that at the low price segment, Elephone is going to compete with Meizu M1 and also Redmi 2 to talk about a few

The Elephone P6000 has been availiable for $135, so that kinda fills the gap.

The Redmi 2 with 2GB of RAM costs $149.99 on Xiaomishop. The Meizu M1 only has 1GB of RAM.

Even ignoring the above, Elephone isn’t trying to compete with Xiaomi or Meizu. They would never win. They compete with the other low cost brands like Doogee.

Stop the cry. if you want 2GB don’t expect to spend 99$ on a phone. The phone has very nice specs, and be thankful it have the MTK6732 than the old MTK6582, so still an awesome bargain!

        Firstly mind your words.
Secondly, the prices of the phones are becoming lower, Xiaomi Redmi 1S with the earlier Snapdragon 400 with 1 GB RAM and 8 GB ROM comes at less than 99$, Further Xiaomi Redmi has a good specs, Now you might read here that Redmi 2 with 2GB RAM will be on sale soon, the moment you put in the various social apps the phone will start to suffer. Thus now, 2GB RAM is the bare minimum now, sure its ok to price it a bit, then its a choice between having a good phone with is a shade future proof and having a phone which is even outdated at the lower segment.

I don’t know if you are aware but Xiaomi is one of the top selling phones in the world, Elephone isn’t anywhere close. Xiaomi will see more Redmi phones than all of Elephone’s models combined. Xiaomi has the buying power to offer better specs for a lower price. Not to mention they sell phones for near cost because they make it back through advertising and the MIUI Store.

Even with lower costs you are not going to find many phones with 2GB of RAM for less than a $100, and if you do find one from a smaller company I would be very wary of what they skimped on to get the price that low. Just taking a quick look around the cheapest one I can find from a quality manufacturer is the Inew V7 for $135, but that has the older MTK 6582 and a 2100 battery.

As for 2GB of RAM being the bare minimum it really all depends on the user and the version of Android. I still use a Nexus 7 (2012) with 1GB of RAM. I run MIUI on it and never have any issues with any of the apps I use. I am not a heavy gamer though.

Is this going to be like the typical Elephone announcements? Will we ever actually see this phone? They have a long history of making grand promises and then never delivering.

This phone is exactly what would suit my missus, who doesn’t want anything too fancy, just a good honest phone that will be a decent all rounder..The lower res means bigger icons so for partially sighted people is possibly a better. option given it is a 4.5″ screen it will also help the response.
