OnePlus respond to ‘cablegate’, offer refunds to accessory buyers

oneplus 2 review

As expected, albeit delayed, OnePlus responded to the ‘cablegate’ issue that had to do with OnePlus’ Type-C adapters and cables’ incompatibility with some fast charge devices.

OnePlus reassured users that their accessories were 100% safe to use with the OnePlus 2, but at the same time conceded that they might not be compatible with all USB Type-C devices available in the market.

The post went on to state that if the chargers/adapters/accessories that you’re using are CE, CCC or UL certified, they are good enough to be used with OnePlus’ Type-C accessories.

Carl Pei, co-founder of OnePlus, wrote a message on the OnePlus forums:

Gizchina News of the week

Recently it has come to our attention that two of our products, the OnePlus Type-C cable and the OnePlus USB Type-C adapter, are using a resistor that may not be fully compatible with some third-party devices. Please rest assured that this cable and adapter are safe to use with the OnePlus 2

Despite that, if you bought OnePlus’ standalone Type-C accessories, you’re entitled for a refund. North America and Europe buyers should follow this link while Chinese and Indian buyers can head over to the nearest OnePlus service centre for a refund.
