Purported Xiaomi laptop specifications leaked

xiaomi laptop

The rumour that Xiaomi are working on a laptop have been floating around for almost a year now, now new details have emerged detailing what the price and specifications for the device might be.

New details emerged today claiming to tell everything we want to know about the rumoured Xiaomi laptop. Apparently the device will go on sale as an affordable alternative to the new Apple Macbook with all metal body, but with a choice of screen sizes. One option will be a sub 12.5-inch model while the other a larger 15.6-inch device.

Gizchina News of the week

Under the hood of the laptop insiders say we will find a Intel i7 4th generation processor, 8GB RAM and Nvidia GeForce GTX 760M GPU. The screen will feature LED backlit technology with a modest resolution of 1920 x 1080.

As for the operating system, well today’s rumours say Linux will be used, but with Xiaomi’s own UI. Think of it as a Chinese version of Chrome OS made by Xiaomi with a lot of cloud apps. However, we won’t be surprised if the laptop is also ready to run Windows 10 too like the recently released Xiaomi Mi Pad 2.

Pricing for the Xiaomi laptop is said to be just 2999 Yuan, making it a very affordable laptop, especially if it does feature an alloy body.

I have bought a few laptops in Asia. Three in Thailand (where my residence is 6 months out of the year), one in South Korea and two in China. All of them had a QWERTY keyboard that features both English and the native characters. You can see the example below, I have actually never seen one in my travels that was just the native language (not saying they don’t exist just never noticed one). Below is what a Thai keyboard typically looks like:

You will not be able to play it on medium/high, rather low/medium.

I have a desktop with a 750ti which is a faster graphics card and an 6th gen i5 6600k processor which is waay faster and it runs it on medium at ~50fps which is an decent framerate. You will most likely be able to run it on low with good framerates, but I don’t think that it will have much more than 30fps on medium.

However, if you look at graphics comparisons on YouTube between low and medium you will see that they’re very similar visually, so I’d personally still be very content with playing FO4 on low.

I have played it on Ultra Settings on a friends PC with a Titan and a 4K display and I play it personally on an Xbox One. It looks better on the PC especially the draw distance but not better enough to justify his graphics card costing more than my console and TV lol.

          and the others arent ?!

do answer my question but also let me just put down the point that xiaomi is looking at developING markets , where ppp (purchasing power parity) is a big issue. Dell is a giant of world computing and can profit from 1st world and 3rd world countries all the same (tho ironically , xiaomi may have something to say about their 3rd world share in the near future 😛 )
but xiaomi is target cost-effective solutions and i think atm , skylake being intel’s Newest lapdog , ought to cost more than its older brothers and that pushes the budget-friendly part out of the equation.
pretty sure same goes for the 960m but i bet a 2gb 960m could find a place in xiaomi’s budget friendly builds !

        • Max
          December 31, 2015

The difference in price is $300. Are you insane or just really stupid? i7>i5, GTX 960 ≈ GTX 760.

          • Aeonia
            January 2, 2016

Resellers have already listed the laptop for prices as high as $700+. Check Banggood. You are the one stupid if you think Xiaomi will sell this laptop for the same price or less than their premium smartphones.

            The 960m ≈ 860m >> 760m ; there’s at least a 15-20% improvement in raw performance.

      • Johan Bjäreholt
        December 10, 2015

In terms of laptop CPUs, there is ALOT different.

The last few generations havn’t added that much extra horse power I agree with you there, but the TDP is way lower and going from a 3rd gen to a 6th gen can easily give you the same performance using half the amount of power.

The specs sound very odd. Xiaomi pride themselves in using latest components, it would be very odd for them to use Intel 4th Gen cpu for next year while 6th gen is already popular and Nvidia should have announced next gen gpu at that time as well. These specs really need a ton of salt!

    • balcobomber25
      December 10, 2015

It depends on the market this is meant for. Xiaomi prides themselves on affordability as well as specs. Right now the economies in the countries Xiaomi mostly sell in, are horrible. A $700 laptop with last gen specs will net them a lot more sales and reach a much wider audience than a $2000 laptop with current gen specs. Especially since this is their very first laptop. The 15.6 inch model will probably be the “Pro” version with all the latest specs.

that’ll skyrocket the costs like crazy…
honestly there’s NOT much difference at all in 3rd gen to 6th gen CPU …
either will do if ur a power user and play games !

Dell managed an i5 skylake + nvidia 960m 4gb gddr for only 750$..I am sure Xiaomi can go lower..plus the skylake i5 is a true quad core

      and the others arent ?!

do answer my question but also let me just put down the point that xiaomi is looking at developING markets , where ppp (purchasing power parity) is a big issue.

In terms of laptop CPUs, there is ALOT different.

The last few generations havn’t added that much extra horse power I agree with you there, but the TDP is way lower and going from a 3rd gen to a 6th gen can easily give you the same performance using half the amount of power.

The difference in price is $300. Are you insane or just really stupid? i7>i5, GTX 960 ≈ GTX 760.

Resellers will often list products that haven’t been launched yet, the price almost never stays the same as what they have listed. Having said that I think we could see this laptop listed for under $750.

I predicted this a few months ago that Xiaomi would make their own MIUI OS based off of Linux. I have a feeling it’s going to be Chromium with Android App support.

The specs sound very odd. Xiaomi prides themselves in using latest components, it would be very odd for them to use Intel 4th Gen cpu for next year while 6th gen is already popular and Nvidia should have announced next gen gpu at that time as well. These specs really need a ton of salt!

The 15.6 inch model will probably be the “Pro” version with all the latest specs.

who pays more than 800$ for a laptop??..not the average buyer..laptop prices in India hover around above mark or less…and no need to splurge money on laptop, baring aside people who buy the mac and other supposedly high end models…way to go Xiaomi!

Millions of people spend more than $800 on a laptop, including people in India.

They should use AMD or ARM chips instead of intel to lower the price, and it is good they are using Linux instead of Windows.
