Waterproof Sharp Aquos gets Ricoh camera certification

Huawei aren’t the only ones teaming up with a camera maker to boost sales, Sharp are also giving it a go with a helping hand from Ricoh.

The new flagship from Sharp, called the Aquos Zate, will feature a waterproof body, Snapdragon 820 chipset, 3GB RAM, 1080 IGZO display and rear 22.6 mega-pixel camera. Where as Huawei have opted for a dual 12 mega-pixel design the Zate gets a single sensor, but with a certification nod from Ricoh.

Gizchina News of the week

At this stage we don’t know if Ricoh are just helping with the software optimisations and stamping their name on the phone (like Leica did) or if they have had a more hands on approach, but with this trend already gaining traction expect other camera makers to jump on board soon too.

A leaked image of the Sharp Zate shows the phone will be available in black, white or green but at this time we’re not sure on the screen size or what the price might be.

Wonder if this will have proper international support. I have owned a Sharp previously and although it was a good phone with great build quality the OS was very Japanese. Would be great to have this as an international option..

Nop, i believe its on the side like the Sony and the the Future… You can kind of see in the pictures. By the rigth side under the power button so I think it’s touch activated and not the pressing tipe. On the left side you get to see the sim/SD tray.
