OnePlus 5T: Everything you should know before November 16 launch

So the day is about the come, when the OnePlus 5T will be finally unveiled. After a huge stream of news and leaks, and even an early non-authorized unboxing, did you got everything you should know before getting carried by the hype surrounding the tomorrow, November 16, launch event? We are here to help.

OnePlus 5T

OnePus 5T Display:

One of major differences, if no the main difference between OnePlus 5T and its predecessor will be its display size and form. In the beginning of this year, LG launched the flagship LG G6 with a 18:9 aspect ratio, something totally new in the smartphone segment. Then Samsung followed it with the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, after that it turned in a trend which most of device makers are following.

When OnePlus 5 arrived it packed a regular 5.5-inch FHD screen with the standard 16:9 aspect ratio. Although the panel wasn’t bad, the Chinese manufacturer failed to follow the trend of bezelless and full-screen handsets with their flagship.

That’s when the first rumors of OnePlus 5T started, with the device being the OnePlus response to the 18:9 trend. The OnePlus 5T  sports a 6-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2160×1080. The company did an excellent job by trimming down the bezels around the panel, which moved the fingerprint sensor to the back by result.

Specifications and Features:

The OnePlus 5T will keep nearly the same specifications from its predecessor, apart from some minor differences. Under the hood the Snapdragon 835 will ensure all the necessary power for the flagship. Just as the OnePlus 5, the 5T will come in two variants with 6GB RAM and 64GB Storage and another one with 8GB RAM and 128GB Storage.

Keeping the lights, the OnePlus brings the same 3,300mAh battery from its predecessor. Considering the bigger screen and resolution, we expected the BBK owned company to give a bump in the battery capacity. With an equal capacity, but more pixels to illuminate we judge that OnePlus 5T may have a minor endurance than the OnePlus 5.

Curiously all the leaks suggests that the OnePlus 5T will arrive packing a OxygenOS build based in the Android Nougat 7.1.1 which is disappointing considering that Android Oreo’s release occurred two months ago, and even other brands like Huawei achieved to launch smartphones running the latest of Google’s OS. However, we expect that a Oreo update should arrive for both OnePlus 5 and 5T before the end of this year.

Camera wise the OnePlus 5T will pack the same dual setup of OnePlus 5, which consists in one 16MP Sony IMX398 sensor coupled by another 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor. Apart from the similarities, recent teasers shared by both Carl Pei and Pete Lau company head chiefs, suggests that the software inside OnePlus 5T suffered a different treatment thus improving the camera performance, and ensuring a better low light performance.

We are yet to see how the tweaks made in the camera will translate in the real life usage, and if the OnePlus 5T will be much superior than OnePlus 5. Additionally the handset counts with a 16MP Sony IMX371 sensor, ensuring the better of selfie enthusiasts pleasure.

Price and Availability.

The OnePlus 5T release will happen tomorrow during an event in New York and will be available from November 21 for both US and European market. In China the device unveiling will happen on November 28 and will be available for consumers on December 1.

A lot of speculations have circulated around the web in the regard of the OnePlus 5T pricing. Firstly Carl Pei talk about rising price of components suggested that OnePlus 5T would be costlier than its predecessor, later some rumors pointed the opposite. Recently a leak appeared suggesting the official pricing of OnePlus 5T at Indian market, based on that leak we can speculate.

The picture suggests the 6GB RAM and 64GB Storage variant coming priced at Rs 32,999 (~502) and the 8GB RAM and 128GB Storage OnePlus 5T to come priced at Rs 37,999 (~580), those are number that are slightly higher than the OnePlus 5 price. However aren’t so high considering other smartphones with the same specs package.
