Next year’s iPhone series will bring an upgraded Face ID

Gizchina News of the week

Guo Minghao said that the 2019 iPhone will have an upgraded Face ID experience. Specifically, he believes that Apple will increase the power of the floodlight illuminator, which will help reduce the possibility of ambient light interfering with face recognition. For the user, this means that the failure rate when using the Face ID to unlock the iPhone will be lower.

The report said that Apple’s suppliers, such as IQE, Lumentum and Win Semi, will benefit from future Face ID upgrades, and they will become the main suppliers of Face ID hardware. Guo Minghao also said that the next iPad is expected to be released in the fourth quarter of 2019 or the first quarter of 2020, which may include Apple’s new 3D modeling technology “time of flight”. He said that this feature will appear on the 2020 iPhone after its debut on the next-generation iPad.

The analyst had previously predicted that the TrueDepth infrared function would not appear on the 2019 iPhone’s rear camera. He added in a new report that this feature might first be launched on the iPad and then applied to the next generation iPhone. According to Guo Minghao’s previous report, the 2019 iPhone series will echo the three models of 2018: two OLED models and one LCD model. The analyst also expects that in the near future, a new low-cost iPad mini will replace the iPad mini 4, but this product is not expected to have Apple’s new 3D camera function.
