Since the official announcement of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC which can support 5G network, there has been a huge debate if we really need the 5G network. When compared with the existing 4G network, the 5G network brings a faster connection speed and lower latency which will be perfect for Internet of Things (IoT). However, a good chunk of the issues with 4G network was not addressed by 5G. One of such issues is the high cost of 4G network. Firstly, the user will have to purchase a 5G enabled smartphone before considering the cost of service from the carrier.

5G pre-commercialization will commence next year and the first batch of 5G mobile phones will be launched. So what is the price of a 5G mobile phone? Judging from the current media speculations, the price of the first batch of 5G mobile phones will not be too cheap and should range between 5,000 yuan ($727) – 10,000 yuan ($1454). Other reports suggest that the first batch of 5G smartphones won’t be cheaper than 8000 yuan ($1163). However, it is believed that by 2020 5G commercial phase threshold should drop down to just over 1,000 yuan ($145).

OnePlus 7 will become the first 5G commercial mobile phone in Europe. Liu Zuohu said in an interview that the 5G mobile phone will be about $200~$300 dollars. However, there is no timeframe for the release of this smartphone and it is not known if it’s coming anytime soon.
