EMUI 9 starts hitting global Huawei P10 units

The EMUI 9.0 based on Android 9 Pie is coming to the Huawei P10, the top of the range of 2017. And it is more than good news, especially if you look at rivals like Samsung, which for some time has been constantly updating its products, has not yet brought Android 9 Pie to its top smartphones of the 2017 (Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8).

The firmware does not include  the GPU Turbo for Huawei P10, which should arrive in the future. The update is reported in distribution in Malaysia from which come the screenshots with the changelog.

Gizchina News of the week

The screenshot reveals the VTR-L29 models are receiving a 3.38 GB package with build number 9.0.1.119. It brings simplified UI, a Settings menu that is easier to navigate; Android Dashboard that is a rebranded Digital Wellbeing for monitoring your screen time, etc.

The changelog says launch times of apps and “once-heavy processes” are now moving “lightning fast”, but there is no GPU Turbo. There are also new alarms, ringtones which are “inspired by nature” and “bring the wild back to your everyday”, whatever that means.

To get the update on your Huawei P10, you have to click the Update notification once it arrives. If you have turned off automatic updates, head to the Settings menu, and then to About to see if the package already arrived. Although the VTR-L29 version is dual SIM, pretty soon the VTR-L09-named single SIM Huawei P10 should also start receiving Android Pie.

EMUI 9 already rolled out to Honor Play in Europe, improved the Antutu and 3D Mark benchmarks, and seems just fine with no real issues, so it should benefit the P10 for sure.
