On the 10th of January, Chinese manufacturing giant, Xiaomi announced the independence of its Redmi brand. Prior to the announcement, the Redmi logo has been unveiled and there were a lot of speculations regarding Redmi’sĀ first independent smartphone. Redmi unveiled the Redmi Note 7 and this smartphone is perhaps the most anticipated device presently. The general idea is that Xiaomi is releasing its Redmi brand just like Huawei and Honor operates so that they can collectively have a wider reach.

Gizchina News of the week

Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, said that with the independence of Redmi, the Mi brand can now focus on flagship smartphone with higher prices. The more features you include in a smartphone, the higher the price. Thus Xiaomi has been very conservative when it comes to loading its smartphone with top-notch features. However, Redmi should be able to make cheaper flagships with streamlined features while the Mi series goes all out with what the industry has to offer.

No doubt, Redmi has started well with the Redmi Note 7 which was launched for less than $150 and the company is already preparing the Redmi Note 7 Pro with a better chip and a Sony 48MP sensor. The brand is also preparing a Snapdragon 855 flagship smartphone which will sell forĀ 2500 Yuan ($368). With all of these, do you think the new Redmi brand will help Xiaomi grow in the industry? Do you think its impact will be as good as Honor? Cast your votes in the poll below and if there is anything you need to add, please use the comments.
