[GizPoll of the Week] Which OEM will make a mark in 2019

From our last week poll, 75% of voters believed that the Xiaomi Pocophone new brand is the best newcomer in 2018 while Oppo’s Realme came a distant second with 13% votes.

Today, we are looking at the manufacturers that could make a mark in the smartphone industry in 2019. As of now, we have tons of phone makers and many of these OEMs are barely known by the public. There are also a couple of manufacturers who have a strong grip on the smartphone market and some even doubt if these phone makers will fall.

Apple closed last year on a soft note with the company admitting that it this holiday is the first holiday quarter slowdown it has had since 2011. It was also revealed that Apple’s slow sales are not limited to China alone but other countries are slowly beginningĀ to prefer cheaper Android devices.

Huawei finished 2018 strongly as the company managed to topple Samsung and Apple to top the Russian smartphone market. Huawei’s sales for 2018 also exceededĀ 200 million units and the company has now set a new 250 million units for 2019. If Huawei achieves this feat, experts believe that the company is set to topple Samsung as the largest phone maker in the world.

Gizchina News of the week

Xiaomi finished 2018 on an average note. The biggest news from the end of 2018 was the independence of its Redmi brand which is scheduled to officially announced on January 10. The new independent Redmi brand will operate like Huawei’s Honor sub-brand and it is already preparing a flagship smartphone which it will probably announce on Jan 10. Xiaomi still holds the top spot in the Indian smartphone market which happens to be the second largest smartphone market in the world behind only ChinaĀ but recent laws by the Indian government may be threatening Xiaomi’s grip.

Samsung Galaxy S9

Samsung had the Galaxy S9 series which received a lot of backlash from the market due to lack of innovations but the company bounced back with the subsequent release of the Galaxy Note 9 which proved to be one hell of a smartphone.

There are several other OEMs including OnePlus, Google, Vivo, Oppo, Smartisan, Meizu and more which could make a serious mark in 2019. Having looked at the end of 2018 for some manufacturers, which of these do you think will strengthen its stand in 2019?

HTC won’t make a comeback in 2019. I would like to see LG doing it but I don’t think so. But I’m sure that OnePlus will have a great year with their new product line of 2 smartphones (a regular one and a 5G model).

Redmi will have a good year, I’m looking forward to their budget flagships, should be able to beat honor and oneplus easily.
