Lei Jun in a press statement said that this year is the first year of 5G startup, and 5G is a revolutionary era. The 5G startup has great significance for the communication, unmanned intelligent transportation, and the opening of the 4K or 8K band TV’s. Xiaomi recently released a 5G mobile phone in Europe, and according to Lei Jun, the company will soon release a 5G mobile phone in China. Nevertheless, the company will have to wait for Chinese carriers to be ready for the 5G network before a 5G phone can be used in China.
At the MWC 2019 conference, Xiaomi officially released its first 5G smartphone, namely the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G. At the time, it was the second commercial 5G smartphone after the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G version maintains the overall design and specifications of the original model, but the processor has been upgraded from Snapdragon 845 to Snapdragon 855. Also, it sports the Snapdragon X50 independent baseband that makes the phone support 5G connectivity.
The use of an external baseband consumes more power thus Xiaomi increased the battery capacity of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G version from 3300mAh to 3800mAh to ensure sufficient battery life. Combined with the Xiaomi smart antenna switching technology, our protagonist could have a download speed of up to 2Gbps. In other words, it can download a 15-minute 1080p video or 26 MP3 songs in one second. At the conference, Xiaomi and European operator Orange demonstrated the 5G video call.
