Sony will likely release the PlayStation 5 towards the end of the year. Recent reports claim that Sony plans to limit the production of its upcoming PlayStation 5 consoles in the first year. The number of units will be much lower than the output of the previous generation. According to PS5 supply chain, Sony has told assembly partners that it will produce 5 million to 6 million PS5s in the fiscal year ending March 2021. When Sony released the PlayStation 4 in November 2013, the first two 7.5 million units were sold in the same quarter.
The report also mentions that Sony will rely on PS4 as a bridge to allow new users to join PSN. If the supply of PS5 is inadequate, the PS4 will reduce its price to increase the number of new PSN users. Industry sources believe that both the PS5 and Xbox Series X will launch in the same period. If Microsoft does postpone its launch, Sony is unlikely to postpone. However, the problem now is that the coronavirus pandemic is badly affecting Sony. However, Sony is still confident that the PS5 will arrive on schedule.
