Tecno Camon 17 announced with Helio G85 and 90Hz display

Transsion Holdings continues its global campaign through the Tecno and Infinix brands. Last week, the company introduced a bunch of new smartphones under both brands. We can list the Tecno Spark 7P and the Infinix 10 Play. Now, the company is bringing a new Tecno smartphone for its Camon series, the Tecno Camon 17. As you may expect, this is another of Tecno’s budget-friendly smartphones coming with decent, but modest specifications such as Helio G85 SoC and an HD+ display. Without further ado, let’s dive into the specifications of this handset. The device is hitting Kenya today, but we expect more countries to receive it soon.

Tecno Camon 17 specifications

The Tecno Camon 17 comes with a 6.55-inch tall display featuring a top-left aligned punch hole. The panel is of the LCD kind and offers HD+ (1,440 x 720 pixels) resolution. The good side is that it offers a 90Hz of refresh rate, making transitions and navigation more fluid. As we’ve mentioned above, the handset comes with the MediaTek Helio G85 chipset. This chip has two ARM Cortex-A75 cores clocked at up to 2.0GHz plus six ARM Cortex-A55 cores clocked at up to 1.8GHz. It also comes with a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU clocked at up to 1GHz. The phone is paired with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM. Storage is 128GB no matter the variant you pick, and it also supports microSD cards.

In terms of optics, the handset has a primary 48MP primary camera. It is accompanied by a 16MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP tertiary sensor. For selfies, there is a 16MP front snapper that makes the punch-hole it’s home. The handset draws power from a huge 5,000mAh battery, that thankfully, has 18W fast-charging. The charging brick is included in the package as other smartphones in this price range. It also has a 3.5mm headphone jack, USB-C connector, and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

The device runs Android 11 straight out of the box. Furthermore, Tecno brings its own HiOS layer with distinct visuals and features. It’s good to see Android 11 here. After all, the Infinix 10 Play reached India recently still based on Android 10.

Pricing and Availability

The Tecno Camon 17 comes in configurations – 6GB + 128GB and 4GB + 128GB. The 6GB variant is offered at Ksh 22,799 ($210), the other variant’s price is yet to be revealed. No matter the option you select, there are three possible colorways – Frost Silver, Deep Sea, and Tranquil Green.
