Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will receive an advanced optical zoom

It has already become a tradition that in the first half of the year Samsung presents an update to the flagship Galaxy S line. Therefore, it is not difficult to guess that it is preparing the Galaxy S22 series for the announcement next year, and work on new products is already underway. As the premiere approaches, the number of leaks will increase; and now we have to be content with bits of information.

Naturally, the focus of engineers will be on the camera, an upgrade awaits it. The Galaxy S21 Ultra received two telephoto lenses this year; but the company is looking to raise the ante next year.

In particular, the famous network insider Ice Universe claims that the Galaxy S22 Ultra will offer a camera with continuous optical zoom. Samsung Electro-Mechanics and Samsung Semiconductor are developing the new technology.

Continuous optical zoom is used in professional cameras and allows you to use different degrees of zoom without losing quality. In the future, you will not need to apply hybrid and digital zoom; as well as other software tweaks for zooming in, which degrade image quality.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra offers a 3x telephoto lens and 10x periscope; but still uses hybrid zoom and image fusion technology to enable zooming. Photos taken at these intermediate zoom levels usually deteriorate. Thus, constant zoom will theoretically provide better and more stable results without having to switch between cameras.

In theory, in the Samsung Galaxy S22, the company could ditch one of the telephoto lenses. Most likely, the technology that Samsung will offer will be different from that implemented in the Sony Xperia 1 III; where the camera switches between 3x and 5x zoom. In the Galaxy S22, the zoom must be continuous without limitation between certain values.

It is worth mentioning that yesterday, SamMobile published information on the development of a budget smartphone Samsung Galaxy F22. Interestingly, the device will be based on the yet-to-be-announced Galaxy A22. At first glance, it may seem strange to start developing a smartphone based on a device that does not yet exist, but in reality, everything is simple.

The previous experience of the South Korean company is cited as an argument about the similarity of Galaxy F22 and Galaxy A22. As a rule, Samsung releases devices similar to Galaxy A in the Galaxy F family, but with some simplifications. However, they do not affect the cameras; and it turns out that the Galaxy F is becoming one of the cheapest devices on the market with good camera modules.
