This year promises a number of surprises in the field of mobile chips. For example, Samsung is preparing to bring to the market its next-generation processor with graphics from AMD; which should significantly improve the graphics performance compared to the Exynos 2100. It would be naive to think that Qualcomm will not leave this chip unanswered; and will not release a new flagship platform. The first details about it appeared on the network.
The successor to Snapdragon 888, model number SM8450, will be manufactured using a 4nm process technology and will be based on Kryo 780 processor cores based on ARM Cortex v9 architecture. It is very likely that the new chip will be based on customized Cortex-X2 and Cortex-A710 cores, and you can also expect a separate cluster with energy-efficient Cortex-A510 cores.
Snapdragon 888 successor will be a premium chip with new technologies
For graphics processing, the Adreno 730 video accelerator should be responsible, which may be head and shoulders above its predecessor. The naming of the graphics can speak in favor of this. Adreno 660 in Snapdragon 888 will be immediately followed by Adreno 730, the company misses several numbers in the name at once.
Other characteristics of the SM8450 chip include a Snapdragon X65 5G modem, a Spectra 680 image processor, an Adreno 665 video processing unit, an Adreno 1195 display unit, support for up to 1 GHz downlink mmWave and 400 MHz Sub-6 D.
At this stage, this is only a set of characteristics and numbers, which says little about the real performance and capabilities of the new flagship Qualcomm chip. But there is no doubt that progress against the background of Snapdragon 888 will be and, perhaps, it will be tangible. According to rumors, TSMC will produce the SoC, which plans to start test production of 4-nm chips. And they can begin to be mass produced as early as the 4th quarter of this year.
