Qualcomm Lahaina – Snapdragon 888 Pro?

The Qualcomm chip on Geekbench comes with the code-name “Qualcomm Lahaina”. The speculation so far is that this is probably an engineering model with Snapdragon 888 Pro. The report claims that this chip is the Snapdragon 888+ SoC. The X1 super-large core has been increased from 2.84GHz to 3.0GHz, the other core frequencies remain unchanged. The Prime CPU core (Cortex-X1) will be the one with 3GHz, the 3x Performance Cores (Cortex-A78) will have 2.42 clock speeds and the 4x Efficiency CPUs (Cortex-A55) will go up to 1.8GHz. The CPU scores 1,171 points in single-core tests and 3,704 in the multi-core department. However, there is no information on the GPU frequency.

In addition, Zhao Ming, CEO of Honor, previously stated that the Magic series and Honor Digital series, as Honor’s flagship and high-end products, will create the annual all-round technology flagship and benchmark for aesthetic design.

Zhao Ming also said that the new Honor flagship mobile phone will surpass the hardware design and experience of Huawei Mate and P series. This new Honor series will come with an iconic appearance design. It will also use advanced imaging capabilities and algorithms. Furthermore, Honor claims to employ a strict manufacturing process and quality assurance.

Presently, many Chinese manufacturers already have test versions of the Snapdragon 888 Pro. Thus, we can not tell which of them will release smartphones with this chip. One can only speculate that among them will be Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Oppo. Perhaps Black Shark and Nubia will also please users with gaming smartphones. Of course, this is just us looking at our crystal ball and nothing official.

Furthermore, the full improvements of the Snapdragon 888 Pro are also not clear. However, it appears that its upgrade relative to the SD888 will not be much. Most likely, the chipmaker will go the usual way; and simply overclock the frequency of the cores and the graphics subsystem.
