Huawei has been releasing its new HarmonyOS to millions of its smartphones. At the Huawei P50 series launch event, Yu Chengdong announced that HarmonyOS now has over 40 million smartphone users. For HarmonyOS, existing Huawei users are an important starting point to its success. This explains why old smartphones like the Huawei Mate 9, P10, and others will get this update. However, some of these smartphones are about five years old.
As of five years ago, the internal storage of smartphones barely exceeds 64GB, most have 32GB. Today, the minimum internal storage for many smartphones is 128GB. Also, these old smartphones will have battery aging issues. For this reason, Huawei’s after-sales service center has launched a low-cost battery replacement and memory upgrade plan.
The memory upgrade plan starts at 369 yuan ($57). The internal memory of many old Huawei smartphones can be upgraded to 128GB, 256GB, or even 512GB. Smartphones like the Huawei Mate 9 and P10 can get this memory upgrade.
Starting this month, the Huawei Mate 9 series, Mate 10 series, Mate 20 series, Mate 30 series, P10 series, P20 series, and P30 series are getting this upgrade. From August to September, the Huawei nova 2s ~ nova 7 series will join the upgrade plan. In addition, Huawei Enjoy 10/10 Plus/10S will also commence the upgrade from August. From October to December, the upgrade of Honor 9, Honor 10 series, Honor 20 series, Honor 30 series, Honor V9, V10, V20 series, V30 series, 9X series, Play series, Magic 2, etc. will be launched.
This is obviously a piece of good news for many users. However, netizens also want Huawei to upgrade its RAM capacity. Nevertheless, since the RAM strongly integrates with the processor, the engineering requirement is larger. Most likely, Huawei will not want to take this difficult route.
