Vivo X70 and X70 Pro launched with improved camera setup

After many leaks and rumors, Vivo has officially disclosed the Vivo X70 series. As usual, we have three smartphones, the Vivo X70, Vivo X70 Pro, and Vivo X70 Pro+. The first two smartphones are pretty similar, the major difference is the number of cameras on the back. The latter is a flagship smartphone with compelling specifications. The company is improving the camera set up in a lot of aspects, however, it has been so audacious to change other aspects of the smartphones. Apparently, Vivo is using the “let’s keep what works” philosophy.

Vivo X70 and X70 Pro specifications

Both the Vivo X70 and X70 Pro have the very same 6.56-inch AMOLED display found on their Vivo X60 predecessors. The display has a centered punch-hole a Full HD+ resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. The displays also house fingerprint scanners for biometric authentication.

In terms of performance, the changes are also small, when we compare the new models with their Chinese processors. The Vivo X70 Pro keeps the Samsung’s Exynos 1080 SoC found in the Vivo X60 Pro. The vanilla smartphone, on the other hand, is changing things a little by sporting a MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC.

The Vivo X70 and X70 Pro big upgrades come in the camera department. The X70 sports a triple camera shooter on the back. The rectangular camera island houses a 40 MP main camera, a 12 MP ultrawide module, and a 12 MP telephoto camera with 2x Optical Zoom. The numbers aren’t impressive when we compare them with the Vivo X60. However, they do come with newer sensors promising improved image quality.

When it comes to the X70 Pro, the handset packs a 50 MP main camera, a 12 MP ultrawide module, and 2x telephoto cameras. The device also has a fourth camera offering an 8 MP periscope lens with 5x optical zoom. The smartphone comes with Vivo’s custom V1 Image Signal Processor. It boosts the focusing speed and increases the image quality. Despite the different resolutions, the two main cameras have the same IMX766V sensor from Sony. Usually, this camera has 50 MP native resolution, so Vivo is likely doing a permanent crop on the vanilla variant, probably for the sake of stabilization.

Pricing and Availability

Vivo X70 and X70 Pro also pack better batteries with enhanced fast charging. The Vivo X70 has a 4,400 mAh battery whereas the Vivo X70 Pro has a slightly bigger 4,500 mAh battery. Both devices come with 44 W fast charging. Both handsets are already listed on Vivo’s China website. However, the first flash sale will only start on September 30.

The vanilla variant comes in White, Black, and Nebula Gradient and has a starting price of CNY 3,699 ($573). The Pro is also available in Black, White, and Nebula Gradient. However, the price starts at CNY 4,299 ($665). This variant comes a little earlier on September 17.

For now, there is no word on global release. However, we can expect these devices to hit other markets in the next few months.
