Xiaomi will offer 4 years of software support for its smartphones

How many years manufacturers should support a smartphone? Many people think of 2-3 years, but there are many who believe that updates should be released within 5 years. And this is quite logical, because in the modern world there are many models that are quite competitive in performance and functionality even after 2-3 years.

Germany recently proposed to the European Union to oblige all manufacturers to release security patches and spare parts for devices within 7 years. And this initiative received a wide response and caused a lot of controversy. All these twists and turns, it seems, do not pass by Xiaomi, which quickly reacts to everything.

Long term support is an important topic. And today, September 9, Xiaomi announced that its upcoming Xiaomi Mi 11 T and 11T Pro smartphones will receive three major Android updates and will receive security patches for four years. As a reminder, the duo of these affordable flagships will debut on September 15th. Xiaomi will be the third company after Samsung and OnePlus to release security patches for their devices within 4 years.

Xiaomi is also exploring the possibility of offering longer support for its other devices as well. Although it is unlikely that the company’s affordable gadgets will receive such a privilege. Four years of the arrival of security patches is a more likely prospect for flagships. And perhaps for the Xiaomi Mi 11 series and Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 they can make such an exception.
