iPhone 14 Pro is rumored to use up to 8GB of RAM for the first time

According to a recent report out of South Korea, Apple may use a larger 8GB of RAM on the iPhone 14 Pro series. If the news is true, this will also be the largest RAM capacity ever on an Apple iPhone device. Citing Chinese supply chain sources in South Korea, the report claims that the memory components for the “iPhone 14 Pro” have now been confirmed. It also claims that the company is currently accelerating plans for mass production.

The source has previously made predictions about the 6th generation iPad mini. He said at the time that Apple planned to launch a “new iPad mini with an 8.7-inch display” in the second half of 2021, with an increase in width and height compared to the fifth-generation iPad mini. The final product differs from what he predicted because the sixth-generation iPad mini actually uses an 8.3-inch display. Nevertheless, his predictions are partly correct because the release time and body size were correct.

Gizchina News of the week

A report by Haitong International Securities analyst, Jeff Pu, late last year similarly claims that the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max models will come with 8GB of RAM. This would be a significant increase over the 6GB of RAM in the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro. The current highest RAM capacity on an iPhone is 6GB. Non-Pro iPhone models tend to have less RAM. Thus, it is possible that the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max will have less than 8GB of RAM. For the iPhone 14 Pro series, it is possible to use 8GB of RAM. However, Apple will likely carve out the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 MAx from the 8GB range.

Apple seeks memory increase

Taking iPhone memory to the next level is the trend. In early 2021, Apple introduced a 16GB memory option for the iPad Pro, and on the iPhone, it may be a long time before we see such a large amount of memory.

Actually, 8GB of RAM is nothing special, just that it will be the first time for iPhones. Samsung Galaxy smartphones have had 8GB of RAM since the 2019 Samsung Galaxy S10. This is about three years ago.

As for smartphones in the Android camp, regular RAM capacity is as high as 16GB. However, using the recent memory fusion technology, Android RAM capacity gets as high as 20GB. However, we know that Android operations require more memory than iOS. This is the main reason why iPhone memory has not been increasing like Android.
