Vivo X80 and X80 Pro launched with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Dimensity 9000

Vivo X80 Pro

The Vivo X80 had been cycling through the rumor mill for several months now. Earlier this month, Vivo unveiled a couple of devices in China. The company introduced the Vivo X Fold as its first foldable smartphone, the Vivo X Note as a 7-inch flagship, and the Vivo Pad. Now, the company is adding the long-rumored Vivo X80 and Vivo X80 Pro to its portfolio in the Chinese market. Interestingly, there isn’t a Vivo X80 Pro+, at least not for now. The device is rumored to only hit the market by Q3 2022. Without any ado, let’s see what these devices have in tow. They will soon be introduced in India, and possibly, in other global markets.

Vivo X80 specs

The vanilla Vivo X80 stands as the most affordable option of the duo. Interestingly, it still manages to bring a 2022 flagship SoC with 4 nm manufacturing. It’s the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC. However, it’s optional as Vivo also sells a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. We’re starting to believe that MediaTek will not reach high numbers with the Dimensity 9000 due to the fact that many companies tend to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC instead. Anyway, let’s see if the Taiwanese will achieve the same popularity in the flagship segment as it has conquered in the mid-range segment.

Vivo X80

The Vivo X80 flaunts a 6.78-inch Samsung E5 AMOLED panel with 1,500 nits of peak brightness. The phone also has 100 percent of DCI-P3 color gamut coverage and a 120 Hz refresh rate. The camera setup brings a 50 MP Sony IMX866 RGBW 1/1.49″ sensor and f/1.75 lens with Optical Image Stabilization. Furthermore, there is a 12 MP ultrawide snapper from Sony. Last but not least, there is a third telephoto module with 12 MP resolution and 2 x optical zoom. The selfie snapper is a 32 MP shooter.

The phone brings up to 12 GB of RAM with up to 512 GB of Internal Storage. It draws power from a 4,500 mAh battery with 80 W fast charging. The phone runs Android 12 with Origin OS Ocean running on the top. Moreover, it brings WiFi 6e, Bluetooth 5.3, and an under-display fingerprint scanner.

X80 Pro

The Vivo X80 Pro is also available in two versions. One has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, while the other brings the Dimensity 9000. It’s up to customers to decide which version they will take. There is still no info on which version will reach global markets. However, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 variant seems to be the more likely option.

The Vivo X80 Pro also packs a 6.78-inch screen with Samsung E5 LTPO 2.0 AMOLED with Quad HD+ resolution. Since it’s an LTPO 2.0 panel it offers a dynamic refresh rate with options between 1 Hz and 120 Hz. According to Vivo, it’s more power-efficient than the panel inside of the Vivo X70 Pro Plus.

Vivo X80

The Vivo X80 Pro also comes with an under-display fingerprint scanner that uses ultrasonic technology. The panel has a 38.7 percent larger recognition area. However, it’s not like the Vivo X Note which supports more than 1 fingerprint at once.

When it comes to the camera department, the device has a Quad-Camera setup. The phone comes with a primary 50 MP camera with an ISOCELL GNV imager. The panel comes with Optical Image Stabilization and a bright f/1.57 aperture. The unit also has laser Auto-Focus and Pixel Shift technology. There is also a 12 MP Sony IMX663 1/2″ sensor with 1.22um pixels and an f/1.85 lens with gimbal OIS. There is also a Sony IMX598 48 MP sensor of 1/2.0″ size.  All the cameras benefit from the Zeiss T* lens coating, just like the Vivo X70 series. It also makes use of the Vivo V1+ ISP chip with low-light photography. The selfie snapper is the same 32 MP in the vanilla option.

The phone draws its powers from a 4,700 mAh battery with 80 W fast charging. There is also fast wireless charging with 50 W charging. The Pro variant also brings a 27-layer VC cooling system, HiFi audio chip, NFC with a wider range, Stereo, IP68 water, and dust-proof certification. The phone also runs Android 12 with OriginOS Ocean straight out of the box. Both variants will bring Funtouch OS to global markets.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 option has 8 GB / 256 GB, 12 GB / 256 GB, and 12 GB / 512 GB variants. The Dimensity 9000 version lacks the 8 GB RAM option. The company asks CNY 5,499 ($840), CNY 5,999 ($915) and CNY 6,699 ($1,020) for each variant.

Both devices are up for pre-orders, but the shipments will begin on April 29. We know that the lineup will also debut in India and in Malaysia.
