Tesla’s quarterly sales fell for the first time

Tesla

Tesla reported on the volume of production and deliveries of electric cars in the second quarter of this year. On an annualized basis, growth took place despite a number of difficulties, but compared to the first quarter, there was a decline. The company also noted that last June was the most productive in history for it.

Between April and June, inclusive, Tesla produced 258,580 cars. For comparison: in the second quarter of 2021, the production volume was 206,421 units. Thus, the increase in production amounted to approximately 25.3%.

A total of 254,695 electric vehicles were delivered to end consumers, which is 26.5% more than last year’s result of 201,304 units. In the total mass of deliveries, Model S and X accounted for 16,162 units, Model 3 and Y – 238,533 cars. A year earlier, these values were 1,895 and 199,409, respectively.

Gizchina News of the week

Third-party analysts predicted that Tesla would be able to ship 295,078 vehicles in three months; but this figure was subsequently lower by some experts to about 250,000 units.

At the same time, a decline took place on a quarterly basis; with both electric vehicle output and actual deliveries declining. In particular, in the first quarter of this year, Tesla produced 305,407 vehicles and shipped 310,048 vehicles. Thus, in the second quarter there was a decrease of 15.3% and 17.9%, respectively. This attracts attention, given the fact that Tesla management expected to maintain production volumes of electric vehicles at the level of the previous quarter by the end of the second quarter.

We note that the results had a negative effect by the difficulties beyond the control of Tesla – interruptions in the supply of components and the suspension of factories. In particular, the stoppage of Chinese production in April due to COVID-19 had a strong impact on performance. The financial results for the second quarter will be available on July 20.
