Chinese manufacturing giant, Xiaomi, released three devices today including the Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro, Xiaomi Watch S1 Pro and Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro. According to the company, the Xiaomi Watch S1 Pro, with a sapphire glass mirror + stainless steel body design starts at 1499 yuan ($222). The Xiaomi Watch S1 Pro uses a sapphire glass mirror, a pyramid-textured rotating crown, and a stainless steel body. The straps are available in leather, fluororubber, and stainless steel.

The Xiaomi Watch S1 Pro comes with a 1.47-inch narrow bezel large screen. This device also boasts a 480 × 480 resolution, 600nit global brightness, and 100+ dials. Officially, Xiaomi Watch S1 Pro preset apps include NetEase Cloud Music, Scientific Calculator, Tick List, etc. Downloadable apps include Drinking Time, QQ Music, Perpetual Calendar, Phoenix FM, etc.

Xiaomi Watch S1 Pro supports cross-screen intelligent linkage, mobile phone notification reminders, and one-key synchronization of the watch. This device also supports Bluetooth calls, allowing you to free your hands. The Xiaomi Center helps users intelligently control various Xiaomi smart devices on the wrist. It can adjust the Xiaomi smart TV and Xiaomi smart speaker volume.

In terms of health functions, Xiaomi Watch S1 Pro supports heart rate monitoring, sleep monitoring, stress monitoring, skin temperature measurement, and low blood oxygen detection. In terms of sports functions, the Xiaomi Watch S1 Pro supports 100+ sports modes and comes with a dual-frequency GNSS five-star positioning system. Furthermore, this device uses a 12nm advanced process chip, with a typical battery life of up to 14 days.

Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro headphones released: 48dB noise reduction depth

The company also officially unveiled the Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro which is a true wireless earphone. The starting price of this device is 1,099 yuan ($163) and it is available in black and gold. If you pre-order this device, you will get it for 999 yuan ($148).  The Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro headphones are equipped with Xiaomi’s customized 11mm dual-magnetic ultra-dynamic unit, which is officially claimed to have super low frequency and super low distortion.

In terms of sound quality, the official claims that the Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro supports the LHDC 4.0 ultra-clear transmission protocol and has the Hi-Res Audio Wireless certification. The Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro also supports 360 sound field spatial audio and supports head tracking. Officially, this headset has independent computing power. It also uses a 12nm chip, and can connect to other devices to achieve spatial audio.

The noise reduction depth of Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro can reach 48dB. In terms of battery life, Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro achieves a single battery life of 9 hours. This device also gets a comprehensive battery life of 38 hours.

Xiaomi’s R&D expenditure is expected to be 17 billion yuan ($2.5 billion) in 2022

At tonight’s event, the company’s CEO gave the “2022 Lei Jun Annual Speech”. In his speech, Lei Jun mentions that Xiaomi has invested 13.2 billion yuan ($1.95 billion) in R&D expenses in 2021. Furthermore, he claims that the company will invest no less than 17 billion yuan ($2.5 billion) in 2022. At the same time, Lei Jun said that in the next five years (2022 – 2026), Xiaomi’s R&D expenses will exceed 100 billion ($14.8 billion).

It is worth mentioning that Lei Jun said at the press conference at the end of last year that Xiaomi’s five-year R&D plan two years ago was to invest 50 billion ($7.4 billion). However, in the past two years, Xiaomi has invested more than 22 billion yuan ($3.2 billion) in research and development. The company also has more than 16,000 engineers. However, this is not enough. Xiaomi will update its R&D plan and increase its R&D investment to 100 billion ($14.8 billion) in the next five years.

The financial report data shows that Xiaomi Group will spend 13.2 billion yuan ($1.95 billion) on R&D in 2021. Lei Jun also once said… “Xiaomi firmly believes in technology-oriented, sticks to hard-core technology… and lives up to Mi Fan’s expectations.”
