iPhone buttons are soon going away. An enhanced Taptic Engine that simulates volume and power buttons should come standard in Apple’s next Pro model – the iPhone 15 Pro.

Apple is continuously working to make its iPhone designs simpler. According to MacRumors, the iPhone 15 Pro, which is not anticipated to be released until September 2023, may arrive without the physical volume buttons and the On/Off button.

The information source that specializes in Apple news has discovered a number of consistent hints that would support a rumor that the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo first highlighted last month. Cirrus Logic stated that it “is working with a strategic customer to bring a new HPMS component to market in smartphones next year” in a letter to its shareholders. The term HPMS, stands for High-Performance Mixed-Signal Chips. It refers to a chip that is included in the iPhone’s Taptic Engine among other things.

According to claims made by the company’s CEO, this chip should be available in the H2 of the next year. A time frame that, coincidentally, falls within the release of the newest iPhone. This component, according to a note from the analysis firm Barclays, could offer “additional drivers for the haptic engine”. Which undoubtedly would enable the mobile to mimic the operation of physical buttons.

Apple has faced challenges of this nature many times before. Since 2015, the Taptic Engine has been in use in MacBooks to mimic touchpad clicks. This element is in use by the Apple Watch to deliver the most realistic vibrations. Since 2020, even the iPhone SE has included a “fake” middle button. It would be a first for Apple to use entirely fake buttons on an iPhone model. But it would open up new possibilities and make the device more easily waterproof.

To distinguish the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max from the other phone lines, these virtual buttons might be available for them.
