MIUI 14 is official: Features and eligible devices

Xiaomi MIUI 14

Yesterday, Xiaomi made the new MIUI 14 public, which promises intriguing changes, particularly from the point of view of efficiency and privacy, along with the Xiaomi 13 and a number of devices, including the Watch S2, and the mini PC.

While the initial changelog was just recently released, we had the chance to enjoy some pictures as early as July. However, with the announcement, we now have the chance to take a closer look at the features of the new proprietary interface of the Chinese company. Let’s take a look at them now.

New MIUI 14 features

Users will not notice many visual differences with MIUI 14 and will feel very familiar, but the key modifications are made internally.

The most significant development is the optimization of the operating system’s space usage, primarily as a result of the system applications’ (non-removable) reduction to eight. This allowed for the resizing of MIUI and the saving of 1.5 GB.

However, Xiaomi didn’t stop there. It also made a number of changes to its software, allowing for both memory usage to be decreased and the introduction of third-party program optimizations that help them run faster and more smoothly.

As we pointed out last week, the new MIUI also delivers significant privacy-related news. In fact, the company asserts several system situations (more than 30), including image recognition, text extraction from pictures, video subtitles, call registration, translation, and other processes.

Data won’t be sent to Xiaomi’s servers because it will be handled locally (on the phone). It appears to be a significant advancement for the Chinese company to keep user activities private.

The second new feature in MIUI 14 is version 6.0 of XiaoAI Assistant, which is of a completely different character, at least conceptually.

The digital assistant, which is primarily targeting the Chinese market, now learns user patterns and offers a number of recommendations, including advance shortcuts to payment and transit codes as well as providing multipurpose reminders for planning, smart home, travel, and other activities.

What about the graphical changes? As we’ve already mentioned, MIUI 14’s visual changes are few, but Xiaomi has included “Cute things,” interactive cat avatars, and other features that can be placed on the screen to adorn and personalize it. To put it more specifically, users may select from four different icon sizes, new widgets, editable folders, and more.
