Oppo A58x 5G arrives with Dimensity 700 and 5000mAh battery

Oppo is once again in the headlines thanks to the launch of two new foldable phones – Oppo Find N2 and N2 Flip. The former is a sequel to the original folding phone, while the second is totally new with a flip design. Also, the Oppo Find N2 Flip marks the company’s debut in the global scene of foldable devices. While these devices get all the attention, the company has something less fancy to present today – the Oppo A58x 5G.

If you’ve been following Oppo releases in the mid-range smartphone segment, this will sound like a Dejavú. The fact is that nearly two months ago, Oppo revealed the Oppo A58. So what is the point of the new Oppo A58x variant? Upgraded specs? Well, not exactly, the A58x is more a downgrade than an upgrade. It changes the camera and the charging speed, apart from that both units are very similar.

Oppo A58x specifications

The Oppo A58x packs a 6.56-inch IPS LCD screen with a 90 Hz refresh rate and a dot notch. The cutout serves as a home for an 8 MP selfie camera. Moving around to the back we have two big circles. The first houses the primary 13-Megapixel camera, while the second houses the 2-Megapixel depth sensor and the LED flash. This is the first downgrade we have for the Oppo A58x. It drops the camera resolution to 13-Megapixel from the 50-Megapixel in the regular Oppo A58.

Under the hood, the Oppo A58x packs the same aging Dimensity 700 SoC. The modest SoC ensures 5G connectivity and enough power for everyday tasks. It is paired with up to 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of Internal Storage. There is also a micro SD card slot for further memory expansion.

The Oppo A58x draws its power from a 5,000 mAh battery with just 10W charging. That is the second downgrade as the regular A58 boasts 33W charging. So, if you’re in the market for the A58x, be aware of how long it will take to get a complete charge.

Other specs include stereo speakers, a 3.5mm audio jack, Dual-band Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 5.3. The phone runs on old Android 12-based ColorOS 12.1, so you will have to wait for an update that brings Android 13 and ColorOS 13 for it.
