iPhone 17 Pro will debut Face ID technology under the screen

Face ID

According to an industry insider, Ross Young, Apple is developing an under-screen Face ID technology. However, because of technical issues, mass production and commercial use of the tech have been delayed until 2025. This means that the first iPhone to use this tech will be the iPhone 17 Pro. As everyone is aware, Apple began the notch era with the release of the iPhone X. Apple placed the initial deep-sensing camera system (including the dot matrix projector) in this notch to enable 3D face recognition.

One of them uses a dot matrix projector to draw your individual face spectrum using a number of indiscernible light points. The infrared lens then reads the dot matrix pattern, takes a picture of the image, and sends the infoĀ to the bionic chip. The chipĀ confirms the match and completes the unlocking. The entire process takes milliseconds.

According to the source, Apple’s tech is evolving in a way that gradually reduces the size of the notch screen. The notch gave way to the pill screen in the current iPhone 14 Pro series. The next step is to hide the entire Face ID system beneath the display, leaving only the front-facing camera exposed.Ā This implies that Apple will include a number of precise bits behind the display. We can expect projectors, ambient light sensors, distance sensors, and floodlight sensors. It is important to note that Apple will not be the first brand to use this technology. Other brands like ZTE have a couple of generations of mobile phones with under-screen cameras.

The earliest that this solution will be made commercially available is in 2025. At the moment, we are still at the iPhone 14 series. This means that we will have no less than two other iPhone series before this tech arrives. At the moment, all the rumours about the iPhone are with regard to the iPhone 15. However, the iPhone 15 series may not bring any significant change relative to the iPhone 14 series.
