Harmony OS: set to defeat Android and iOS once and for all

Huawei HarmonyOS 3.1

After the ban on Huawei by the U.S. a few years ago, the company had to hurriedly roll out its own operating system. The company calls this system Hongmeng (in China) and Harmony (globally). Since its launch, Huawei has been consistently upgrading this system and it now comes with features that even the much older iOS and Android systems don’t have. However, after about three years of development, Harmony OS is yet to come out of China. The company says it needs certain things to be in place before the global rollout. The latest update of this system Harmony OS 3.1 has been tested publicly.

At the moment, many models are part of the testing of Harmony OS 3.1. From the pace of its development, the Huawei P60 series should launch this system. It should be ready just in time for the series. Now comes the question, what exactly has been updated in the new version of Harmony OS 3.1?

One aspect that Harmony OS surpass other systems in the world is its deep integration. On Harmony OS, most features do not need third-party apps. The same can not be said of other systems. At the moment, Harmony OS has about 2% of the market share. However, the company is optimistic that with its updates, it is set to make a major statement.

HarmonyOS 3.1 public beta version comes to Huawei Mate 50

In the middle of this month, Huawei started the public beta of Harmony OS 3.1 Beta1. It has been recruiting developers who own Huawei P50 (ABR-AL00) and P50 Pro (JAD-AL00) mobile phones. On February 27, there were reports that the HarmonyOS 3.1 system public beta has expanded to the Mate 50 series. The company claims that more devices will be added later. This also means that the official version of this update is not far away.

According to Huawei, the Beta1 version adds ArkTS cross-terminal interface development capabilities and low-code development capabilities based on the capabilities of the Preview version. More API 9 capabilities will be launched in the subsequent Beta2 version. Judging from the preview of the P50 model, HarmonyOS 3.1 has done a lot of work in animation and system stability optimization. In addition, there have also been major adjustments to the animation of the notification panel and the layout selection of widgets. The intensity of the bug fix is also not small.

According to the timetable announced by Huawei, HarmonyOS 3.1 will become regular at the end of March or early April. The Huawei P60 series and Mate X3 are expected to pre-installed this system for the first time. According to data from Strategy Analytics, HarmonyOS has become the third-largest mobile phone system in the world. Not long ago, “Father of Harmony” Wang Chenglu reiterated that the Harmony system is not Android, iOS, or a single-device operating system. The greatest value of the Harmony system lies in the combination of multiple devices. This is one feature that other systems do not have.

About Harmony OS

Harmony OS is a system developed by Huawei, a Chinese tech company. It is designed to provide a unified platform for various devices. This includes mobile phones, tablets, wearables, smart home appliances, and more. Harmony OS is built on a micro kernel architecture, which provides a high level of security. It also enables it to work on various devices with different computing power and memory capacity. The system also features distributed tech, which allows devices to communicate with each other seamlessly, creating a distributed network.

One of the key pros of Harmony OS is its ability to provide a seamless user experience across different devices. With Harmony OS, users can easily share files and data across different devices. The OS can adapt to different screen sizes and resolutions, providing a consistent user interface.

Another huge advantage of HarmonyOS is its focus on security and privacy. The micro kernel architecture provides a high level of security. This makes it difficult for hackers to exploit vulnerabilities. HarmonyOS also features a Permission Control feature, which enables users to control the access permissions of apps, providing better privacy protection.

HarmonyOS was first launched in 2019. Since then, Huawei has been actively promoting it as an alternative to Android. While HarmonyOS was initially designed to replace Android on Huawei devices, the company has stated that it is open to working with other mobile phone brands. The aim is to make the system a viable alternative to Android and iOS.
