We heard a lot of talk about generative AI from Google employees and how it’s going to dramatically affect how you use a lot of Google services at Google I/O 2023. Magic compose was one of these features. It will allow you to instruct AI to generate messages for you, saving you time and effort.
What is Magic Compose?
Magic Compose is a feature within the Google Messages app that creates messages for users using AI. Magic Compose is designed to make messaging more seamless and efficient.
How to Get Early Access to Magic Compose
If you’re eager to try it for yourself, you’ll need to join the Google Messages beta program and have a US-based SIM card. To sign up for the beta program, follow this link. Keep in mind that Google One Premium subscribers will have priority access, and you must be 18 years or older to use the feature.
Google delivers on its promise earlier
Surprisingly, Google stated during the I/O keynote that this feature would be available in the summer. Google is delivering on its promise more than a month before the formal start of summer. However, Magic Compose may not be available to the general public until the summer.
Key Features of Magic Compose
This feature boasts several impressive features that set it apart from other messaging technologies. Here are some of the key features you can expect:
Magic Compose understands the context of your conversation, allowing it to generate appropriate messages. This means that the AI will consider factors such as the nature of the conversation and the relationship between the participants when crafting messages.
Time-Saving and Efficiency
By generating messages for users, Magic Compose aims to save time and energy, making it easier for users to carry on with their daily lives without getting bogged down in endless texting.
Magic Compose uses machine learning to analyze user patterns and craft messages that are tailored to individual users. This means that the AI-generated messages will sound more natural and closely resemble how you would typically communicate with others.

How Magic Compose works
Google has granted Android Authority access to the feature, and they will be publishing a separate article detailing their experience with the feature. Be sure to stay tuned for this exclusive first-hand account of what it’s like to use the feature.
According to Android Authority, Magic Compose breaks end-to-end encryption for your messaging. Up to 20 of your messages are sent to Google’s servers. Google then analyzes them to make better suggestions. Google purges these messages when done with them and does not use your messages to train the Magic Compose feature. So if E2EE is vital to you, we’d advise you not to use the feature for now. We’ll also be testing out this feature when it arrives on our end. So stay tuned as we’ll be updating you on how Message Compose works.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai and his team made up ground with a bevy of AI goodies during I/O 2023, so it’s not surprise that this is making its way to Google Messages. Similar tools have recently been added to Google’s Gmail and Google Workspace apps. Despite its shortcomings, it is obvious that AI will have a significant impact on the globe. However, it is critical to be aware of the risks.
