Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra to get a stunning 2x zoom option in its camera’s Portrait mode

Samsung has been a leader in the mobile phone industry for years, and its latest release, the Galaxy S23 Ultra, is no exception. According to ITHome citing a report from popular Twitter tech blogger @iceuniverse, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will soon be getting a 2x zoom option in its camera’s Portrait mode. This feature will allow users to zoom in and increase the level of background blur. It will also add some natural bokeh to the software-created effect. According to GSMArena, the 2x mode will use a 50MP crop from the 200MP main camera, which will then be brought down to 12MP.

The image sample of the 2X portrait mode can be seen above and it is clearly lovely. Samsung is internally testing a firmware update with the suffix WE9 for the Galaxy S23 Ultra according to IT Home. The firmware update comes with a size of 1.5GB. WE9 may be Samsung’s upcoming firmware update in June. @iceuniverse said previously: “Samsung is deeply optimizing the camera system of the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Samsung has changed its firmware update strategy this year and will significantly optimize the camera. Looking forward to the June update”.

Sammobile reports that in addition to the Portrait mode 2x shooting option, the coming update will also bring more upgrades. The report claims that it will boost the quality of the image. It will also take care of the issues “around objects in HDR and 2x zoom for videos”. Furthermore, Sammobile claims that the update will arrive at the end of May or early June.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra boasts four cameras on the back, including a massive 200MP main camera. This sensor is a 1/1.3-inch sensor with a f/1.7 aperture and supports autofocus and OIS. It is joined by a 12MP wide-angle camera and a pair of 10MP telephoto cameras and offers  3x and 10x optical zoom.

They can zoom in and out by pinching the screen with their fingers, or by tapping one of the available options at the bottom of the screen, such as 3x or 10x. They can then tap Capture to take the photo.
